A Trip to the Hospital: Medical Club Members Gain Insights
Members
of EBC New Castle’s Medical Club recently visited St. Elizabeth
Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio, on a field trip that served a
dual purpose.
First, through the trip, students were introduced to some of the
newest advances in medical technology, including the latest CT scanning
and MRI (Medical Resonance Imaging) systems in the hospital’s
nuclear medicine department. Other departments on the tour included
the emergency room, pharmacology, laboratory/pathology and medical
records.
Secondly, the visit gave the students insight into future job opportunities,
including those of medical secretary, medical transcriptionist,
and medical coding and billing specialist. The students said they
were impressed by the knowledgeable staff at St. Elizabeth’s
and look forward to future field trips related to their areas of
study.

Business Club Outings Give Students First-Hand Look at Area
Companies
Members of EBC New Castle’s Business Club recently visited New Castle
Harley Davidson, the latest in a series of trips the club has taken to area
businesses over the past few years. The visits give students the opportunity
to meet local entrepreneurs and business managers, to ask questions and learn
more about the companies they visit, and to begin to network with area professionals.
Destinations during past semesters have included Lowe’s Home Improvement
Center, the Ski Den and Body Structure Fitness.
Mr. Rowland, an EBC New Castle instructor and advisor to the Business Club,
makes the trips available not only to Marketing and Sales majors but other
interested students as well. Students who would like to join the Business Club
are encouraged to contact Mr. Rowland or Alex Goldblatt, an EBC New Castle
student who serves as club president. The group is now planning activities
for 2008, including guest speakers and entrepreneurial workshops. All levels
of student interest and participation are welcome, so get on board!

Computer Club Members Develop School Intranet Site
Computer Club students at EBC New Castle have been getting a real
taste at what it’s like to work in the web page business.
For the past few months, club members have been designing and
maintaining an intranet web site for the school. The site, which
is accessible from any of the school’s computers, features
campus news, the school calendar, student spotlights and community
news. Students can also connect to view the Dean’s List,
class schedules and final exam schedules.
The Computer Club had been publishing a monthly newsletter for
students. Feedback from students and club members led to the decision
to make the newsletter available via an intranet site that could
be viewed by all current students, faculty and staff. Some students
are responsible for the design and updating of individual pages
of the intranet site, while other students handle site upkeep
and maintenance.

Student Government: Road Trips, Raffles and More in 2007
EBC New Castle’s Student Government group is on the ball this year—with
events and activities for the entire student body. In August, the group planned
a field trip to Geauga Lake Amusement Park. More than 20 students took part.
Student Amy McCowin was also the lucky winner of the proceeds of a 50-50 raffle
organized by Student Government this past summer. This term, the group is conducting
a raffle in which students purchase bingo-type cards, and two numbers are drawn
daily, until someone “calls Bingo!” Finally, the group is also
coordinating collection of aluminum cans for recycling. Students use the special
container placed near the school’s vending area to dispose of the cans.
Student Government officers for this year are:
President Mary Hall
Vice President Amanda Kelly
Secretary Shawna Mitcheltree
Treasurer Janice Gilson
Freshman Representatives: Theresa Hill, Scott Burgin, Lindsay Jinar, Jessica
Homjak

EBC New Castle students enjoyed Geauga Lake Park this summer on a
field trip organized by the Student Government group.
